ISTANBUL (A.A) - 07.04.2002 - Freedom and Solidarity Party (ODP) leader Ufuk Uras on Sunday called on Israel to put an end to its occupation in Palestine and wanted its tanks and soldiers to be withdrawn from the country.
Addressing a demonstraton entitled ''Freedom to Palestine'' held in Caglayan Square by ODP, Uras said imperialists wanted to give a new shape to the world following terrorist attacks on September 11, noting that they exerted efforts to re-shape Eurasia and the Middle East with blood and gunforce.
''Peace will not take place in the Middle East before a ceasefire is not provided and occupation is not ended. We are calling on Ankara to review the strategic cooperation agreements signed with Israel, and asking them if they have the courage to cancel the tank deal and suspend relations,'' Uras said.
Uras said Israel should soon put an end to its occupation against Palestine and withdraw its tanks and soldiers from the Palestinian cities. He said humiliating attitudes against Palestinian Head of State Yasser Arafat should end soon, and the United Nations should provide international protection to Arafat.
Meanwhile, Sami Evren, the Chairman of the Confederation of Public Employees Union (KESK) said there was a human shame in the Middle East in the 21st century, noting that leaders of the other countries in the region watched this.
Suleyman Celebi, the Chairman of the Confederation of Revolutionary Workers Union (DISK), said all the country watched what has been happening in Palestine, and stressed that the Turkish government could not solve this question by making statements. He said the Turkish government should launch initiatives for a more effective and lasting solution and peace.
Meanwhile, democratic mass organization and some political parties in southern Adana province staged a demonstration and protested Israel.
