THE WORD GENOCIDE CREATES CRISIS
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's statement that Israel committed ''genocide'' against Palestinians created crisis. Israel expressed its uneasiness by launching two separate initiatives. This statement, which was made before April 24, when Armenian allegations would be brought onto agenda, angered Jewish lobbies in the United States. Ecevit said ''it was understood that the word of 'genocide' in my speech at the DSP group meeting caused comments beyond my purpose. I referred to possible serious results of the incidents in the Middle East during my speech. My words reflected Turkey's concerns about recent developments in the region.''

DERVIS: WE CAN NOT ENDANGER BALANCES
State Minister Kemal Dervis said the works regarded with the Istanbul Approach were very beneficial, noting that some concrete decisions were revealed.
Speaking to press after the meeting, Dervis said that the main topic of the meeting was what could be done to support Turkey's sustainable economic growth. ''As you know, at the moment, we cannot loosen our monetary policy or do something that could risk macro economic balances,'' Dervis said.

NO CONCESSION TO INFLATION LOBBY
Central Bank Governor Sureyya Serdengecti said, ''the inflation lobby, which discussed foreign exchange rates in the previous period and which discussed growth in this period is active to some extend. However, the inflation target will not be sacrificed from now on.''
Mentioning the increase in oil prices, Serdengecti said they felt concern over the increase, noting that this will have a negative impact on expectations for inflation.

500 MILLION U.S. DOLLARS SUPPORT
A total of 500 million U.S. dollars credit will be obtained from the World Bank regarding the process to improve small and medium scale enterprises (SMSE).
The participants of the Istanbul Approach decided to put the Istanbul Approach into implementation soon.
''As a part of these efforts, as addition to the 500 million USD that will be provided by the World Bank, there will be efforts to obtain financing from other international finance institutions,'' the declaration that was announced after the meeting said.

KILINC: CAN A SENSIBLE PERSON OPPOSE TO EU
Gen. Tuncer Kilinc, the Secretary General of the National Security Council (NSC), said any sensible person can not oppose to the accession to the European Union (EU).
Gen. Kilinc, who caused confusion when he proposed relations with Iran to be improved, pointed out that, ''my sensitivity has two ways. The first one is that we can not distance ourselves from the EU because the EU will increase the level of welfare and education. Again, we can not think of anything else but membership to the EU to make democracy operate in contemporary norms.''

SEZER CALLS BUSH ON THE PHONE
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer had a telephone conversation with U.S. President George W. Bush on Friday evening expressing Turkey's concern about the ongoing incidents in the Middle East.
Sezer said, ''we find the demand of Israel to live in security as rightful and we condemn terrorism. However, Israel should immediately put an end to occupation and violence and open ways for peace initiatives.''
Bush in response said Powell would try to convince both sides during his visit and he thanked Turkey for its support to peace efforts.
Bush also thanked Turkey for deciding in principle to take over the command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan.

ECHR CHIEF JUDGE WILDHABER COMES TO TURKEY
European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Chief Judge Luzius Wildhaber came to Turkey to give a series of conferences and hold several contacts.
Speaking to reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, Wildhaber said that he would give conference at several universities during his stay in Istanbul.
Wilhaber said that he would later proceed to Ankara and hold several contacts with Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk and judicial circles.

FOUNDATION CEREMONY OF A.A
Anadolu Agency, which will celebrate the 82nd anniversary of its foundation, pursues the principle of accurate, fast, objective journalism and at the same time covers technological developments.
The agency staff will visit Anitkabir, the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the Founder of the Modern Turkish Republic, at 09:30 local time on Saturday under the leadership of Head of Executive Board and General Director Mehmet Guler, and will observe a minute of silence in the presence of its great founder. A ceremony will be held in Anadolu Agency Conference Hall at 11:00 local time.

GENOCIDE PANIC IN ANKARA
Prime Minister's statement that ''genocide was carried out in Palestine'' distressed the Foreign Ministry. Firstly ambassadors in Ankara, then the Jewish lobby in the United States asked ''why that word was used.'' Diplomats had a very hard time to have a ''correcting statement'' from the Prime Minister till the midnight. As Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit said that ''a genocide was carried out in Palestine'', embassies in Ankara started to ask for a statement. That the words were said prior to April 24, when the Armenians wanted to declare as a ''genocide commemoration day'', increased agitation. Offending the Jewish lobby in the United States which is beside Turkey was another concern. The first statement was made at midnight. The word ''genocide'' caused comments beyond purpose.

FIRST HOPE FOR REAL SECTOR
First concrete steps about Istanbul Approach have been taken. The World Bank will grant a loan of 500 million U.S. dollars in order to strengthen real sector. At the meeting to which State Minister Kemal Dervis, high-level economy bureaucrats, businessmen, World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials attended, first concrete steps about Istanbul Approach were taken. Almost 1.8 billion U.S. dollars of loan, including 500 million U.S. dollars from the World Bank, will be provided to implement the measures.

Rain will make itself felt in most part of Turkey also on Saturday.
Heavy rain is expected to be influential in East Black Sea region as of Saturday evening.
Meteorology officials said on Friday that the temperatures would decrease by 4-6 degrees in northern part of Turkey as of Sunday.

State Minister Kemal Dervis pointed out that efforts are underway to reach 3 percent growth target. Dervis said every kind of measures were taken to prevent a sudden crisis to occur again.

SEZER TALKS WITH BUSH ABOUT PALESTINE
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, who had a surprize phone talk with U.S. President George Bush, stressed that siege of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the situation of the Palestinians harmed the interests of the United States.

DEMONSTRATIONS TO BE HELD TO SUPPORT ARAFAT
Demonstrations will be staged in metropolises against the genocide carried out by Israel. Demonstrations will be staged in Ankara on Saturday and in Istanbul, Izmir and Bursa on Sunday to support Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.

A TOTAL OF 96 PERCENT OF LPG STATIONS ARE ILLEGAL
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Zeki Cakan said that only 11 of 256 LPG (liquified petroleum gas) stations in Istanbul had licence. An explosion that took place in a LPG tank in Kagithane district of Istanbul on February 19 caused major damages. Istanbul deputy Celal Adan presented a question motion to Cakan related with the blast. Responding to the question motion, Cakan said that only 11 of 256 LPG stations in Istanbul had licence.
