Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian And Romanian Foreign Ministers Release A Joint Statement

ATHENS (A.A) - 30.03.2002 - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi and Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana released a joint statement late on Friday at the end of their talks, and said that their meeting had focused on NATO's expansion process.
The statement stressed that the Alliance should act about the expansion process during the NATO Summit Meeting in Prague by taking into consideration a sound and geographically balanced growth.
It said that membership of South and East European countries to NATO would further strengthen security and stability of the continent.
Recalling that heads of state and government of member countries to NATO extended support to NATO's expansion during the summit meeting in Bucharest, the statement expressed satisfaction over Hungaria's support to NATO's expansion by accepting membership of Bulgaria and Romania.
The statement said that Turkey and Greece would support Bulgaria and Romania in fulfilling their commitments in the membership process and achieving success in implementation of the Third Acting Plan.
The foreign ministers of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania had reached a full consensus of opinion to maintain their cooperation and to search for efforts to strengthen support to NATO's expansion process.
