Israeli Ambassador Summoned To Foreign Ministry

ANKARA (A.A) - 29.03.2002 - Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal summoned Israeli Ambassador to Turkey David Sultan to Foreign Ministry on Friday by taking an initiative about the recent situation in the Middle East upon the instruction of Foreign Minister Ismail Cem who is currently in Athens, Greece.
Ziyal told the Israeli Ambassador David Sultan that ''the recent operation of Israel in Ramallah was unacceptable, Turkey was against all sorts of terrorism, the both sides (Israel and Palestine) were being drifted to a deeper deadlock and this had to change.''
Ziyal also told Sultan that the attack on the headquarters of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat was unacceptable and he stressed the obligation to take under gurantee the security of Arafat.
Sultan said in his part that Arafat's life was not targetted and that a guarantee was given on that issue. He added that he would inform Israeli government about this initiative of Turkey.
