United States Wants Compromise In Cyprus In June

WASHINGTON D.C. (A.A) - 29.03.2002 - The United States said on Friday that it wanted a compromise to be reached in direct talks between President Rauf Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Clafcos Clerides till end-June.
Holding a press conference, U.S. State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher said that they considered continuing negotiation process between President Denktas and Clerides a positive sign.
He said that the United States wanted these negotiations to be accelerated to reach a compromise till end-June.
Recalling that State Department's Special Representative to Cyprus Tom Weston had held talks with President Denktas and Clerides on March 20, Boucher said the United States attributed importance to the direct talks process on the island.
