ANKARA (A.A) - 29.03.2002 - Foreign Minister Ismail Cem said on Friday that statements of Chief of General Staff Gen. Huseyin Kivrikoglu were in full harmony with Turkey's policy toward Iraq.
Cem responded to the question with notice submitted by Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Karaman Parliamentarian Zeki Unal.
Cem said statement of Gen. Kivrikoglu that, ''an independent Kurdish state may be brought onto the agenda in case United States intervenes in Iraq, and that Turkey could not digest such a development,'' was in harmony with Turkey's policy toward Iraq.
Pointing out that preservation of Iraq's territorial integrity and political unity laid under the basis of Turkey's Iraq policy, Cem recalled that the element of preservation of Iraq's territorial integrity and sovereignty was also included in the U.N. resolutions regarded with Iraq.
