ANKARA (A.A) - 29.03.2002 - Turkey will sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan that was hit by a powerful earthquake March 25.
Releasing a statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said on Friday, ''an earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale jolted Nahrin town in Baglan region of Afghanistan on March 25. According to Afghan authorities, 90 percent of Nahrin town was razed to ground, 1,800 people lost their lives, 4 thousand people were injured and 20 thousand people were left homeless.''
The statement expressed Turkey's profound sorrow over loss of lives and properties in a period when international efforts have been accelerated to reconstruct Afghanistan and settle stability in the country .
''Turkey has decided to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan after the quake disaster. The Red Crescent will send tents, blankets and medical equipment to the quake-stricken area by a military cargo plane,'' the statement added.
