Cakmakoglu: Pkk Is Trying To Adopt A New Identity By Changing Its Name

ANKARA, March 26 (A.A) - National Defense Minister Sabahattin Cakmakoglu said that the bloody terrorist organization has been trying to change its identity by changing its name through a number of political games, when Military Committee Chairman Guido Venturoni and his assistant Raymond Biname visited him at Tuesday.
At the meeting, Cakmakoglu said that they discussed Turkey's relations with the countries in its region and with Europe. He said that the main topics were Afghanistan, NATO's expansion process, Prague Summit and the agreement regarding the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Cakmakoglu told Venturoni's delegation that the issue of OSCE has been completed from Turkey's point of view and now it's the turn of the EU and NATO to approve it.
Stating that Venturoni's NATO post will be over in July, Cakmakoglu congratulated him for his successful services.
''Before my post is over, I wanted to visit all the countries which supported me as NATO military committee chairman. It takes time to visit all 19 NATO countries. During these visits, I had the chance to listen to the views of ally countries on certain issues. I'm very pleased to have discussed a number of points with Turkish chief of general staff and national defense minister,'' he said.
''We discussed the military support in Afghanistan. We exchanged opinions on the possible role that Turkey would have in this field. We also discussed EU-NATO relations. As the NATO military committee chairman, I also want the EU and NATO to reach an agreement. This way we can have closer relations,'' Venturoni said.
He indicated that NATO expansion and relations with Russia in the new world security environment were also debated. ''These will be discussed during the summit in Prague. Due to the 50th anniversary of NATO's foundation, I'm thinking that the summit in Prague will be a historic one like the Washington Summmit. This summit will be an important step towards NATO expansion and forming a new security environment.
When asked how the NATO would overcome Greece's reservations concerning the OSCE, Venturoni said that this was discussed at ministers level. ''As a military member of the NATO, I welcome any kind of compromise,'' he commented.
Responding to a question about Turkey's taking over the ISAF's command in Afghanistan, Cakmakoglu only said that the negotiations were continuing. ''I'm expecting that these negotiations would yield a result soon,'' he said.
About the terrorist organization PKK's efforts to politicize, Cakmakoglu said that the PKK had been trying to adopt a new identity by changing its name and this way to deceive some circles.
Venturoni and his delegation also visited Chief of General Staff Huseyin Kivrikoglu before Cakmakoglu.
