Kutan: U.S. Intervention In Iraq Is Likely In Autumn

ANKARA, March 21 (A.A) - Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan claimed on Thursday that a U.S. intervention in Iraq was likely in autumn.
Responding to questions of reporters, Kutan said, ''Turkey should not take part in this intervention.''
Touching on the visit of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney to Turkey and Middle East, Kutan said that it was seen that the United States was making a decision about intervention in Iraq.
Kutan noted that an intervention in Iraq could only be made via Turkey and said, ''however, ensuring territorial integrity of Iraq and our good neighbourly relations with Iraq are in line with our national interests. To this end, Turkey should not help a military intervention of the United States directly or indirectly.''
Reminding the reporters about the statements that a U.S. operation was not likely on Iraq in the near future, Kutan said, ''this means that a U.S. intervention in Iraq is likely in autumn. Turkey should not take part in this.''
Kutan added that they were against sending soldiers to Afghanistan.
