JERUSALEM, March 21 (A.A) - Turkey and Israel will start to discuss the decision taken by the two countries to form a preferential free trade zone between them during the economic cooperation meetings in Ankara last February.
The goods to be produced in the free trade zone in Turkey will enter the U.S. market without customs to a significant extent due to the free trade agreement Israel signed with the U.S. in 1996. Therefore, Turkey will have a preferential trade with the U.S. without any need for the decision of the U.S. Congress.
Sources told A.A on Thursday that Israel is warm to the idea of setting up preferential trade zone with Turkey in principle, adding that the two countries have not discussed yet the details of the issue.
The first meetings will be held on general framework, later there will be meetings at the level of experts. The U.S. is expected to join these meetings in order to make suggestions.
Other countries can also join the trade zones planned to be set up between Turkey and Israel to make investment.
