PARIS, March 21 (A.A) - Prominent poet Nazim Hikmet was commemorated on Thursday on the 100th anniversary of his birthday in an activity organized in Paris by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Culture Ministry.
UNESCO General Director Koichiro Matsuura was among the attendees of the activity.
A part of Nazim Hikmet Documentary directed by journalist Can Dundar was shown during the activity.
Actor Genco Erkal read the poems of Nazim Hikmet while a reception was held at the end of the night.
The Culture Ministry proposed last year that Hikmet's 100th birthday anniversary should be marked under the auspices of UNESCO. This proposal was accepted at the general assembly meeting of UNESCO in October.
