LEFKOSA, March 19 (A.A) - Rauf Denktas, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) met with Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides on Tuesday.
Speaking before the meeting, Denktas said that there is no new development about the recognition of the TRNC by the Muslim states, adding that TRNC has always asked Muslim countries to recognize it. ''I hope they can hear us,'' Denktas said.
Upon a question, Denktas said that the U.S. Department of State's Special Coordinator to Cyprus Thomas Weston would come to the island to get information, adding that he will explain the things done to date and ask for his help. Denktas said that they will ask states to abide with equality principle on the island, adding that ''if this is the case, Greek Cypriots will no longer think that they will get the island.''
