ANKARA, March 13 (A.A) - Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit sent messages to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, and called on them to put an end to acts of violence and resume peace talks.
Speaking at the weekly press conference, Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesman Huseyin Dirioz told reporters on Wednesday that Deputy Undersecretary Ali Tuygan left for the region yesterday to convey these messages as the special representative of Turkish government.
Dirioz said, ''Tuygan will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres later today. He is scheduled to come together with Palestinian President Arafat on Thursday. Messages to the both sides explain Turkey's assessments about the recent developments in the Middle East.''
''In the messages, Prime Minister Ecevit stresses that incidents in the region gained a serious dimension, and calls on the sides to resume peace talks,'' he told reporters.
Dirioz added, ''the messages also say that visit of U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Anthony Zinni to the region is an important opportunity that should not be missed by the sides. The messages express Turkey's satisfaction with Sharon's giving up his approach to 'zero violence in one a week'.''
