Denktas: There Are Two Sovereignties In Cyprus And One Of The Two Cannot Be Abolished

LEFKOSA, March 12 (A.A) - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said Tuesday that there were two separate sovereignities in Cyprus and one of them cannot be abolished.
Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides met in the buffer zone on Tuesday, the 18th meeting since the beginning of direct talks between the two leaders.
When asked about the content of today's meeting, Denktas said they would continue ''to evaluate a number of issues.''
Denktas said that Greek Cypriot press exaggerated the issue by defining today's meeting as ''critical.''
''I'm repeating, there was and will be no agreement before we agree on every point. Therefore we have to wait for the end,'' Denktas commented.
Responding to the words of Greek Cypriot Administration Speaker Mihalis Papapetru who said ''There cannot be two sovereignties under one roof,'' Denktas stressed that there were two separate sovereignties in Cyprus and one of the two cannot be abolished.
UN Secretary General's Cyprus Special Representative Alvaro De Soto is attending the meetings as an observer. The two leaders are mainly focusing the authorities of the central government and constitutional issues.
The meeting on March 15 will not be held since Clerides will attend the EU summit in Spain on March 15-16.
