WASHINGTON, March 11 (A.A) - At a ceremony commemorating six months since Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on Monday, U.S. President George W. Bush said that the international coalition formed against terrorism should start action against countries producing biological, chemical and nuclear weapons.
Ambassadors of 100 coalition countries, including Turkish Ambassador in Washington Faruk Logoglu, were among the guests at the ceremony.
Bush also thanked to the countries which extended their active support to the coalition against terrorism. ''Turkish Air Forces supplied fuel to our airplanes,'' Bush said and thanked Turkey.
Logoglu was among the three ambassadors who spoke at the ceremony. The other two ambassadors were Korean and Nigerian ambassadors.
In his speech, Logoglu indicated that Turkey supported the international fight against terrorism. He said that Turkish soldiers were currently serving in Afghanistan which proves that the fight which was declared against terrorism did not target Islam.
Logoglu said that Turkey had constituted the best example to a democratic and at the same time a Muslim country. He also said that the fight against terrorism should be continuous and loosening the measures would encourage terrorists.
''We have to get ready to destroy terrorism. The threat is still existing in many countries,''Logoglu said and said that the Turkish nation was sympathizing and praying for the American people.
CNN Television's White House correspondent Major Garrett also stressed Turkey's importance in his commentary about the ceremony. He said that the U.S. bases in Turkey would have vital importance if the United States decides to launch an operation against Iraq. Garrett also claimed that Iraqi opposition forces could set up bases in Turkey against Baghdad administration.
