Ecevit: Turkey Won't Look For Other Alternatives To The E.U.

ANKARA, March 8 (A.A) - Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has said that Turkey would not get tired of the obstacles it is facing on the way to the EU and look for other alternatives.
Releasing a written statement on the recent discussions on the EU on Friday, Ecevit said that certain circles don't want Turkey to join the EU and added that there could sometimes be disagreements between the EU and Turkey. ''But this fact cannot be changed. The Turkish nation is both geographically and historically European,'' he said.
Ecevit added that the Turkish nation had also origins in Asian, Middle East, Mediterranean, and Caucasia.
''The OIC-EU meeting which was held in Istanbul last month was the proof of that. Such a meeting could have been organized only in Turkey. With that characteristics, the Turkish nation is offering wider horizons to Europe,'' Ecevit said.
''Looking for other alternatives to the EU is out of question. In the meantime, Turkey will continue its relations with the other countries in the region,'' he concluded.
