Dirioz: The United States' Privileged Treatment To Turkey In Iron - Steel Products Is Very Positive

ANKARA, March 7 (A.A) - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Huseyin Dirioz has said that Turkey expected to be exempted from increased tariffs in all categories, but the United States offered Turkey preferential trade which is a positive development.
Dirioz told reporters that Turkey's exemption from increased tariffs was discussed during U.S.-Turkey Economic Partnership Commission meetings on Feb. 26-27 and the topic was also raised between the foreign ministers of both countries.
Turkey will be exempt from the majority of new U.S. tariffs on steel imports, Dirioz said.
''Turkey's wish was to be exempt from all increased U.S. tariffs on steel imports, but it's still a positive development to be offered a preferential trade and we conveyed our satisfaction to the U.S. side. However the issue remains to be critical for the world trade,'' he said.
