Fm: U.S. Human Rights Report Is Not Much Different Than Earlier Reports

ANKARA, March 6 (A.A) - The concerned ministries in Turkey started to examine the Human Rights Report prepared by the U.S. Department of State upon the request of U.S. Congress.
Foreign Ministry sources said on Wednesday that the 69-page human rights report was comprehensive, adding that Foreign Ministry seriously examines the report.
Sources said that the report would also be evaluated by the Interior, Justice and other concerned ministries, adding that a response would be given to U.S. after the completion of the examination.
Noting that the report was not very different from earlier reports, the sources said that a positive approach and softening was only felt in the style of the report. The same sources said that they expected a different report from the ones announced during the presidency of Bill Clinton.
Diplomatic sources said that the expression of Kurdish minority was not used for the first time in the 2001 report, adding that Kurds were evaluated within the scope of ''ethnic minority'' in the report and that the critical expression was the ''national minority''.
Sources said that the expression of minority was used differently in U.S. from the one used in Turkey, adding that Americans included every group that is different from the majority to the minority group. The expression in the report was not frightening in this respect, they added.
