ERZURUM, Feb 16 (A.A)- Justice Minister Hikmet Sami Turk said on Saturday that Turkey's new civil code was more advanced than similar civil codes in Europe.
Speaking at a seminar at eastern Province of Erzurum's Palan Hotel, Turk said, ''Turkey proved that it has preferred civilization by adopting the new civil code. As a result, Turkey obtained the most advanced civil code of the 21st century. Everyone, without any exceptions, will find their places in the civil code. Deputies who casted their votes against the law, have begun to support the law after it was enacted. Now, the most important thing is to well-understand and well-implement this code. I rely on our jurists to this end.''
Noting that the most important change in the civil code was the change in family law, Turk said that the new civil code aimed at completely putting into practice gender equality in Turkey.
''Changes in question entailed us to establish family courts. Such courts should put forward concrete and sound solutions to disagreements,'' he said.
Underlining importance of personal characteristics of judges to be charged in family courts, Turk said, ''these judges should be married with children. His personal characteristics should be helpful in solving legal problems.''
Turk also gave information about development of legal system from the Ottoman Empire to 21st century, and defined secularism as a flag under which people gathered within a joint legal system.

Turk visited historical houses in eastern province of Erzurum after attending a seminar held to introduce the new Civil Code.
Later, Turk visited two prisons in which transition from dormitory system to room system was finalized.
He said, ''prisoners have reached humanely living standards as a result of this transition into room system.''
Turk later listened to problems of prisoners.
