ANKARA, Feb 14 (A.A) - World Bank Vice President Johannes Linn said on Thursday that the World Bank planned to hold the World Bank Executive Directors meeting towards the end of this spring.
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit received World Bank Vice President Linn the same day.
Speaking after the meeting, Linn said that he had a positive meeting with Ecevit.
Upon a question, Linn said that the World Bank didn't consider necessary giving a new credit to Turkey.
Following his meeting with Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, Linn told reporters that he would meet with State Minister Kemal Dervis about the steps to be taken before World Bank Executive Board meeting.
Responding to a question, Linn said that they had increased the amount of loan to be extended to Turkey for three years which would end in 2003 to 6.2 billion U.S. dollars.
Linn noted that this was a very significant amount for Turkey.
They debated village-city project during their meeting, Linn said and stated that they would take this issue up at the World Bank Executive Board to support the project.
Linn said that he conveyed World Bank President James Wolfensohn's condolence message over the earthquake that hit Aegean Afyon province during his meeting with Ecevit.
He noted during the meeting that necessary measures should be taken and that they could always extend support to Turkey in case of an earthquake, Linn pointed out.
Linn stated that quake insurance was an important issue and stressed that they touched on a better coordination in case of an earthquake.
