GLENEAGLES, Scotland - US President George W. Bush vowed Thursday the war on terrorism would continue following deadly blasts in London and said he had urged US security officials to be "extra vigilant."
Bush said he was struck by the "incredibly vivid" contrast between the world leaders meeting in Scotland to alleviate poverty, eliminate AIDS and improve the environment and the scenes of horror on the television screens.
"They have such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks. The war on terrorism is on," Bush told reporters on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit in Gleneagles, Scotland.
"I was most impressed with the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve," Bush said.
"We will find them and bring them to justice. And at the same time we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate," Bush said.
Bush also said he instructed US Homeland Security officials "to be in touch with local and state officials about the facts of what took place here and in London, and to be extra vigilant, as our folks start heading to work."
