LEFKOSA, Feb 11 (A.A) - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Dervis Eroglu said that they would reject a solution that would turn Turkish Cypriots into immigrants and stressed that they would not make any concessions about land.
Eroglu said that the meetings between TRNC President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides would continue, but Denktas would not make any concessions regarding the land issue.
Denktas, Eroglu and Deputy Prime Minister Salih Cosar had a weekly meeting on Monday. After the meeting, Eroglu said that he briefed Denktas about the economy delegations who came from Turkey. Denktas also informed Eroglu and Cosar about the developments in Cyprus issue.
He said that the two leaders discussed the land issue during the last meeting. ''As Denktas told us, it's not possible to turn Turkish Cypriots into immigrants. We placed our poeple and Greek Cypriots were settled in the land that was left in the south. We want to help people to live happily on their own land,'' he said.
''The meetings will continue but I can tell you that there will be no concessions regarding the land issue. Because our people were settled in this land and they built their futures on this land. Under these circumstances, it is very difficult to display a different policy,'' he concluded.
