SADDAM:''SAY NO TO THE UNITED STATES''
Iraqi Embassy to Ankara yesterday announced the English translation of the letter sent by the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit. In his letter, Saddam said that he was expecting good neighbourly relations from Turkey. ''We expect Turkey to remain faitful to rules of international law and be a good neighbour. We also expect Turkey to stand against the agressive threats of the United States and other countries,'' Saddam wrote.

TOBB:''TURKEY IS AT A CRITICAL CROSSROADS''
Turkey Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) Chairman Rifat Hisarciklioglu has said that Turkey was at a very critical crossroads and it had no time to waste by hesitating. Hisarciklioglu said that Turkey's basic policies must be decided by politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen. The TOBB Chairman also said that Turkey's integration with the Western world was inevitable.

SADDAM'S ''STUBBORN'' LETTER
Iraqi leader Saddam, in his letter to Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, said ''Don't yield to the arrogant United States.'' Saddam is also accusing the United States for creating excuses to attack Iraq. The Iraqi leader turned down Ecevit's demand to allow UN weapons inspectors to enter Iraq.

GENERAL DIRECTORS AND THEIR DEPUTIES OF FUND BANKS
RECEIVE 7 BILLION TL SALARIES
State Minister Kemal Dervis annoucned that general directors and deputy general directors of fund banks were given salaries ranging between 2.8 and 6.8 billion TL. Responding to the question of Felicity Party (SP) Ankara deputy Zeki Celik, Dervis said that most of the general directors and their deputies were also given cars and some of them were given cell phones. Dervis said these people were not offered free housing.

HERE IS SADDAM'S LETTER
Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein reproached Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit in his response letter. The letter didn't include harsh words, and Saddam didn't threathen Turkey. Iraqi Embassy in Ankara said Hussein noted in his letter that he expected Turkey to take part in taking serious steps in the region for ensuring the stability and security and to regard the threats of the U.S. from a balanced and general aspect.

ET BALIK TRANSFERRED TO SUMER HOLDING
State Minister Yýlmaz Karakoyunlu who is responsible of privatization took a serious of decisions about merger and liquidation of firms which are within the scope of privatization. The Meat and Fish Authority (ET BALIK) was liquidated and transferred to Sumerbank. The Agricultural Equipment Institution was united with State Monopolies (TEKEL) and Ship Industry Board was transferred to Maritime Enterprises.

MINE WORKERS HOLD PROTEST
Mine workers in Gokcesu hamlet held a demonstration yesterday to protest the dismissal of 400 workers from the mine pit belonging to Nurullah Ercan. The workers walked to protest unemployment, poverty and the intervention with their right to get organized in trade unions.

OCALAN GIVES MESSAGES
The terrorist organization PKK announced that it stopped its political, organizational and practical activities in Turkey and Europe. The terrorist organization PKK had told in a statement that it withdrew its armed militans from Turkey on August 2, 1999. Now it issued a statement telling that it decided not to carry out activities within the borders of the EU and Turkey. However it does not state if the militants in Turkey will give up their weapons. Meanwhile Abdullah Ocalan, the head terrorist told a daily ''Yedinci Gundem'' telling that his being captured on February 15, 1999 was an international plot.

E-ATTACK AGAINST FOGG
Workers' Party (IP) leader Dogu Perincek has announced the internet messages written by EU Commission Ankara Representative Karen Fogg. Fogg applied to the Foreign Ministry claiming that Perincek employed illegal ways to obtain her internet messages. Perincek said ''The correspondance shows that Fogg is involved in an operation whose target is to change the prime minister and set up a new party. Her strategic target is to overthrow the nation state.''

THE REST IS UP TO SADDAM
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit who warned Baghdad after speaking with the Bush administration, says he has done everything he could.
During his visit to the United States, Ecevit was told by U.S. President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney that the United States was definitely ready for a military operation against Iraq.

THREE TURKISH COMPANIES RECORD SUCCESS
Family Business Magazine, which published the list of the great family companies in the world excluding the ones in the U.S., included four companies from Turkey on Saturday. Koc Holding was ranked the 49th, Sabancý Holding was ranked the 56th, Dogus Holding belonging to Sahenk Family was ranked the 60th and Garanti Bank again belonging to the latter was ranked the 106th in the list of the magazine.

ALARM IN INCIRLIK BASE
The probability of an operation in Iraq showed its effect in Incirlik base in southeastern Adana province. There have been brought limitations to the period in which the foreign personnel and their families stay outside the base. The personnel who could earlier be outside until 20.00 local time have been asked to return to the base at 17.00 local time.

SHEEP NOT TO BE SACRIFICED IN STREETS DURING FEAST OF SACRIFICE
Citizens will not be permitted to sacrifice sheep in streets during the feast of sacrifice. Istanbul Governor Cakýr said that ''if necessary, I will charge the gendarme to prevent that.'' However only 12 days left for the Feast to begin, but the places where sheep will be sacrificed have not been determined.
