ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul left on Monday for Yemeni capital of Sana to attend the foreign ministers meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
Before he flew to Sana, Gul told reporters that all OIC members were supporting reforms in the OIC pioneered by OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu.
Gul said that Turkey would hand over the presidency of the OIC foreign ministers conference to Yemen during this meeting, and noted that participants would discuss Arab-Israeli dispute, Middle East peace process, Afghanistan, Iraq, Cyprus, OIC reform, UN reform, fight against terrorism, the situation of Muslim minorities in non-OIC member states, fortification of dialogue and cooperation among OIC member states, and cooperation between OIC and other international organizations.
FM Gul noted that he would attend inauguration of two exhibitions, and hold talks with participating foreign ministers, and added that he would return to Turkey on Thursday (June 30th).
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN IRAN
Answering a question on presidential elections in Iran, Gul said, ''this election is a matter concerning Iran's internal affairs. And, Iranian people have made their decision. Turkey has good relations with its neighbor Iran and other neighbors. It is one of Turkey's priorities to improve its good neighborly relations.''
TURKEY'S EU BID
Referring to the press reports that ''the EU had a tendency to open accession negotiations with Turkey in 2006'', Gul said, ''none of these reports are accurate. Everything continues as planned.''
