ANKARA, Jan 31 (A.A) - Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) said on Thursday that the basic issues and the goals of Turkey are so deep, multidimensional and important that, they can't be taken up by pure commercial mentality, political concerns or by ordinary intellectual discourse.
Addressing his party group meeting, Bahceli said that the political, economic, cultural structure and status of Turkey gains more importance within the scope of global developments.
''Certainly the approach of those who have a national and sensitive point of view towards foreign policy issues like the EU, Turkish republics, the Middle East and Cyprus can be different and multidimensional. This does not make us uneasy or surprised,'' Bahceli said.
''The globalization process and the sui generis character of Turkey makes the country different and privileged in all aspects, and this increases both the responsibilities and the difficulties of Turkey,'' said Bahceli.
Referring to the growing importance of Turkey and Eurasia in the new century, Bahceli said that a project like ''Baku-Ceyhan'' oil pipeline can bring the east and west together and it is a ''stability and peace project.'' This project will change the political and economic climate of Eurasia and it will strengthen the cooperation and solidarity in the Caucasus and Central Asia, Bahceli said.
Noting that the peaceful atmosphere in the Middle East should be installed as soon as possible, Bahceli said that Israel and Palestine should act carefully to end the tension and clashes between them.
Mentioning about Cyprus issue, Bahceli said that the Turkish Cypriot people have to be saved from the embargo and unjust treatment, adding that ''we hope a permanent and fair solution to be found to the Cyprus problem so that Cyprus can become a peace and stability island.''
NEW FORM OF ARTICLE 312 IS BETTER
Bahceli said that the amendment foreseen to be made in Article 312 of Turkish Penal Code (TCK) is a more advanced regulation, adding that ''the amendment will not be made to block or open a group of politicians' way.''
Addressing the party group meeting, Bahceli said that Turkey has to use some part of its energy for the incidents that take place in its region, adding that this is important for having closer and healthier relations with the Western world.
Bahceli said that the campaigns held demanding education in Kurdish and those who support them and the recent increase in missionary activities should be considered as a danger in Turkey.
Devlet Bahceli stressed that both the rights and freedoms of individuals have to be taken under guarantee and also public order and national integrity have to be protected in a country. ''These two elements have to complement each other,'' Bahceli said.
Bahceli said that similar articles like the one of Article 312 are found in the laws of many countries, adding that ''it is wrong to confuse freedoms of thought, belief and expression with the activities of separatism and provoking people to hatred and violence. Our party does not want to limit the freedoms, but to limit hatred and provocation.''
Bahceli said that as long as measures that will prevent violence and terrorism are effective in a country, freedoms will further improve.
Noting that the amendment foreseen in Article 312 of TCK is in line with the document prepared by the General Secretariat for EU Affairs that was approved during the leaders summit.
''No body, no political institution or non-governmental organization (NGO) can misinform our people. Turkey's full membership goal and its wishes for further democracy and human rights should not be manipulated for domestic politics. Nobody can achieve political advantages by slandering certain people and parties,'' he added.
