Constitutional Court To Elect Its New Chief Judge Next Week

ANKARA - The Constitutional Court will elect its new chief judge on next Tuesday, July 5th.
The chief judge of the Constitutional Court is elected from among the members of the court. No official application is made for candidacy. A judge who thinks of becoming the new chief judge of the court verbally notifies his candidacy to the other judges.
The new chief judge is chosen in a secret ballot and the candidate who receives at least 6 votes out of the possible 11 is elected. Voting continues until the new chief judge is elected.
As there are vacant posts in the Constitutional Court, three associate judges will also cast their votes in this election.
Law stipulates that the Constitutional Court chief judge will preside over the court for four years.
