O.I.C. Foreign Ministers' Meeting To Start In Yemen On June 28th

ANKARA - The Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Foreign Ministers' Conference will start in Yemeni capital Sanaa on June 28th.
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul will leave for Yemen on Monday to attend the three-day meeting.
During the meeting, Turkey will hand over presidency of the OIC Foreign Ministers' Conference to Yemen.
Turkey took over presidency during the 31st OIC Foreign Ministers' Conference in Istanbul last year.
As being the president of the OIC Foreign Ministers' Conference, Gul will make the opening remarks of the conference.
The conference will end on June 30th after signing of the final declaration.
Besides regional and international developments, the meeting is expected to focus on a series of comprehensive reforms within the structure of the OIC.
After election of Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu of Turkey as the Secretary-General of the OIC, a comprehensive reform and modernization movement was planned both for the OIC and the Islam world.
Problems faced by the Islam world in the 21st century and ways to resolve them; efforts to make the image of the Islam in the world more positive and encouragement of the concept of ''enlightened moderation''; efforts to reconstruct and make the OIC more influential; efforts to strengthen its financial structure; changing the OIC's regulation and name; efforts to narrow the difference between administrators and people in the Islam world; encouragement of democracy; increasing the authority of the OIC secretary-general; establishment of new units and think-tanks to remove misunderstandings in the Western world against the Islam world; and efforts to increase participation of women in social life are among the reforms which have been high on agenda of the OIC.
During a committee meeting of the OIC in Pakistani capital Islamabad in May, a three-chapter report was prepared including all those reforms. The report is expected to be discussed in Yemen.
The report also includes the idea of establishment of a Center for Conflict Resolution within structure of the OIC to resolve disputes and conflicts among Islam countries.
Meanwhile, OIC Secretary-General Ihsanoglu told the A.A that the meeting in Yemen would focus on reform proposals.
''Member states are positive about those proposals. Also, issues such as Iraq, Israeli-Palestinian dispute, assistance to southern Asia after last year's tsunami disaster, and problems of Muslims in southern Thailand will be discussed during the meeting,'' he added.
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will attend the conference with the title of ''Turkish Cypriot State'' for the first time. This decision was made during last year's conference in Istanbul.
