Soyer: Our Target Is Not Only Lifting Of Isolations, But The Solution Itself

ISTANBUL - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer said on Sunday that the main target of Turkish Cypriots was not only the lifting of isolations, adding that ''our main target is the solution itself.''
Taking the floor at a panel discussion on ''Peace and Solution in Cyprus'' in Istanbul, Soyer said that Cyprus problem was an international problem.
''Yet Cyprus problem is one between two societies, without resolving that, it is not possible to sort out its international dimensions,'' said Soyer.
Soyer stressed that the Greek Cypriot side lost its motivation for a resolution on the island, adding ''Greek Cypriots became a member of the EU without a settlement on the island and they believe that they got the chance to make Turkish Cypriots accept their own sovereignty within EU jurisdiction. In that respect they want to get rid of Annan Plan.''
''On the way to resolution on the island, we have to save ourselves from isolations, strengthen economically, and have relations with the world, this is our right,'' Soyer said.
Soyer stressed that ''the Greek Cypriot side should present its list of amendments (on Annan Plan) to the UN Secretary General as soon as possible. The Secretary General should submit those lists to the sides and start the talks. We want the start of talk as soon as possible. We also want the UN Security Council to approve Annan Plan.''
Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot side's AKEL Party deputy Andros Kiprianou said during the same panel discussion that they insisted on resolution of the problem on the essence of Annan Plan.
''Cyprus is a beautiful island, but too small to be divided. Let's work together for a lasting peace,'' Kiprianou added.
