200 Million People In World Wear Turkish Jeans

ANKARA - Turkey will earn 2.8 million USD from denim and jeans exports this year, Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Sunday.
Speaking to A.A correspondent before the denim fair to be held in Russia for the first time, Tuzmen said that Turkey's denim exports rose by 21 percent in the first four months of 2005.
''Turkey earned 984 million USD from denim exports in 2000, while this figure rose to 2.2 billion USD in 2004. 200 million people in the world wear Turkish jeans. We earned 897 million USD from denim exports in the first four months of 2005. And our year-end target is 2.8 billion USD,'' noted Tuzmen.
Pointing out that Turkey's share in denim market in the world was currently 6.5 percent, Tuzmen said, ''we may increase this share to 10 percent in a few years. We should create a new fashion and become a trademark for this (to increase Turkey's share in this market). Our country is the biggest denim manufacturer and the biggest exporter in Europe.''
Tuzmen stated that Turkey was making 22 percent of its denim exports to Germany, 13.4 percent to Britain, 9 percent to the United States, 6 percent to the Netherlands and 6 percent to Spain.
Touching on the denim fair to be held in Russia, Tuzmen said, ''the share of our exports in developing Russian market is over 56 percent. Russia is a market that will rapidly grow in coming days. We can increase our share in this market.''
