ANKARA - Turkish Prime Minister and Justice & Development Party (AKP) leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that their duty is not complete yet, adding that the government would ensure a bright future for Turkey.
Addressing his party's group meeting in the parliament, Erdogan underlined that the studies that have been carried out by the parliament so far showed that the will of parliamentarians met expectations of Turkish nation.
Stating that despite all speculations, Turkey's journey towards the European Union (EU) would continue on the path that was determined on December 17th, Erdogan noted that values and modernization project of the EU complied with ideals of founders of Turkish Republic.
Erdogan stated that they were working for Turkey to reach the highest standards.
Underlining that a powerful Turkey would be a very important chance for the region, Europe and the world, Erdogan stated that Turkey would be a significant player in the rapprochement between civilizations.
He affirmed that the EU needs Turkey, not only for cultural and economic reasons but also for democratic reasons.
Stating that ''when Turkish parliament enacted adjustment laws (to adapt itself to the EU), it showed that Turkey had a mature democracy culture'', Erdogan noted that ''he wished that European friends were as careful and ambitious as Turkey for the future of the EU''.
