BUYUKANIT TO NTOUVAS: ''WE WILL ACHIEVE GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS TOGETHER''
The first Turkish Land Forces Commander to visit Greece General Yasar Buyukanit has told his Greek counterpart Nikolaos Ntouvas that ''they will achieve great accomplishments together.'' Athens was decorated with Turkish flags in honor of the visit of Buyukanit. Turkish national anthem was played at the arrival of Buyukanit to the Greek Defense Ministry.
FIRST TURKISH ASTRONAUT IN 2015
In a meeting of the Defense Industry Executive Committee, Turkish officials decided to publish a 70 page 'National Space Researches Program' as of 2005. The program will cost 1 billion 125 million YTL and will be realized with the cooperation of South Korea and the Ukraine Republic. Accordingly, the first Turkish astronaut will go to space in 2015.

67 PERCENT OF TURKS AGAINST US
According to the poll conducted by Pew International Poll Company in 16 countries including Turkey, only 17 percent of Turks support the US war against terrorism. Besides 67 percent of Turks have negative views about the US. Nevertheless the anti-Americanism in Turkey was higher in 2003--it was 84 percent.
BUYUKANIT: WE WANT GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD RELATIONS
Land Forces Commander Gen. Yasar Buyukanit who is visiting Athens, Greece told Turkish reporters that he was very pleased with the way he was hosted in Athens. ''In our meetings as the commanders of Turkish and Greek Land Forces, we are looking for ways to develop our cooperation. We can't have miracles in one day, but it is useful to meet,'' he said.

TURKEY'S FRIEND SPEAKS OPENLY
British Prime Minister Tony Blair stood firm behind the EU's plans to expand to countries including Turkey. The prime minister of Britain, which will become the EU Term President as of July 1st, 2005, said EU enlargement was a ''historic opportunity to build a greater and more powerful Union''. Blair said that the EU had to renew itself and if the door was closed against the Balkan countries and Turkey, outdated nationalism and xenophobia would rise in Europe.
''WE WILL WRITE HISTORY TOGETHER''
Turkish Land Forces Commander Gen. Yasar Buyukanit's visit to Athens is going very friendly. In the welcome ceremony, Buyukanit told his Greek counterpart that ''you and me, will write history together.'' Buyukanit will address the military school in Thessaloniki where the Turkish flag was earlier desecrated.

SEZER: ''LET US NOT CREATE ARTIFICIAL AGENDAS''
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has criticized certain circles for keeping the headscarf and presidency issues alive. ''Let us not create artificial agendas. Instead of creating artificial agendas and hurting the basic principles of our republic, let us work on making the republic stronger,'' said Sezer.
ARCELIK CELEBRATES 50TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Arcelik, which sells one product every two seconds in 100 countries, has celebrated its 50th year anniversary. Rahmi Koc, the CEO of Arcelik, has announced that their goal is to be one of top 10 brand names chosen globally. ''The Turkish market is now too small for Arcelik,'' told Koc.

BLAIR: ''REFUSING TURKISH MEMBERSHIP IN THE EU WOULD FUEL XENOPHOBIA''
British Premier Tony Blair has indicated that refusing Turkish membership in the European Union would fuel xenophobia in Europe. Britain will assume the role of the EU presidency as of July 2005.
GEN. BUYUKANIT: ''WE ARE NOT IN MOUNTAINS OF THE SOUTHEAST FOR PICNIC''
Turkish Land Forces Commander General Yasar Buyukanit has stated that Turkish military is not in the mountains of the southeast for picnic. ''Our fight against the terrorists will continue,'' told General Buyukanit. Last week, ambassadors of EU states in Ankara had asked Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to stop military activities in southeast Turkey. ''We do not need ideas from anybody,'' stressed General Buyukanit.

BLAIR: ''CLOSING THE DOORS ON TURKEY WOULD BE HARMFUL''
British Premier Tony Blair has indicated that closing the doors on Turkey would be harmful for the European Union. ''Enlargement is an opportunity for a stronger union,'' said Blair. Britain will become the term president of the EU as of July, 2005.
PEACE WITH RUSSIA ON AGRICULTURE
Russian Agriculture Minister Aleksey Gordeyev has indicated that the import ban on Turkish tea and tobacco and identical plants that have been ongoing since the beginning of June is going to be lifted in about a week.
Gordeyev held a press conference after his meeting with Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker in Moscow.
''We have resolved the crisis to a large extent. We had a fruitful discussion and a warm working atmosphere with Turkish minister Mr. Eker,'' said Gordeyev.
''All dried plants will be able to enter Russia freely in about a week. As far as the fresh vegetables and fruits are concerned, we have reached this formula: Officials from the Russian Agriculture Ministry and Turkish Agriculture Ministry will hold a meeting in Turkey next week. Fresh products that will be sent to Russia will go through the examination of this group of experts. The remaining details would be worked out by the experts of the two ministries,'' told Gordeyev.
Asked about how long the process may take, Gordeyev remarked that, within the next two weeks, the import of fresh vegetables and fruits from Turkey would resume.

ERDOGAN: COEFFICIENT DIFFERENCE IS CRUELTY
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the low coefficient that was valid for imam-hatip schools' (theology schools) students who enter the University Entrance Exam (OSS) was discrimination and cruelty against those students. Criticizing the attitude of the Higher Board of Education (YOK) which didn't change the coefficient that was valid for imam-hatip school students, Erdogan said that ''Turkish universities are not included within the top 500 universities in the world, it (YOK) should sort out this problem rather than causing problems for students.''

LITTLE HAGHIA SOPHIA AND ANCIENT CITY AT RISK
The World Monuments Fund in New York has declared two more structures in Turkey are at risk. The archaic city Afrodisias and Little Haghia Sophia Mosque in Turkey have been listed on the ''2006 World Watch List'', which have been announced by the Fund and includes 100 ancient monuments. The Fund takes the buildings and the structures, which are in danger of vanishing over the world and believed to be preserved, into watch list. Meanwhile, Haghia Sophia, Ephesus, The Nemrud, St. August Temple in Turkey had been listed in the list before.
FRATTINI: DEEP AND COMPLICATED NEGOTIATIONS FOR TURKEY
The European Union (EU) Commission's Vice President Franco Frattini has said the EU's full membership negotiations with Turkey, which are to start on 3 October, will be ''deep and complicated.'' Frattini has issued a statement to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, pointing out that refusing Turkey in advance might lead to fundamental damage. As a response to a question on the effects on Europe of negotiations with Turkey, Frattini said that it will be a very sensitive transition and that he has no doubts about that they will also be quite complicated and deep.

BLAIR: TURKEY WILL BE FULL MEMBER OF EU
British Prime Minister Tony Blair said that EU should fulfill its obligations towards Turkey. The working programme of Britain, which will be the new EU Term President as of July 1st, 2005 says that the accession talks with Turkey will start on October 3rd and the target should be full membership.
GERMANWINGS WILL ALSO FLY TO ANKARA
German Company 'Germanwings' started its flights to Turkish capital Ankara, after Istanbul and Izmir. Germanwings public relations official Andreas Engel said that Berlin-Istanbul and Berlin-Ankara flights started on June 5th, stating that Cologne-Ankara flights would start on June 28th and Stuttgart-Izmir flights on July 17th.
