ANKARA, Jan 25 (A.A) - Finance Minister Sumer Oral said on Friday that State Minister Kemal Dervis for Economy and he had made a general evaluation of matters mentioned in the letter of intent submitted to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Oral and Dervis held a joint press conference following their meeting which lasted nearly 2.5 hours.
Recalling that they had started the year 2002 with a very positive atmosphere, Oral said, ''however, we should be much more careful and cautious.''
Dervis said that they had evaluated the matters mentioned in the letter of intent submitted to the IMF, adding that the IMF Executive Board would convene on February 4 if there would not be any hitch.
Noting that Finance Minister Sumer Oral was extending great support to the ongoing economic programme, Dervis said that the finance policy that Turkey was successfully implementing had an important role in winning domestic and external confidence. ''So there should not be any deviation from this finance policy. If it is decided to help especially low-income people, its source should absolutely be found earlier.''
Responding a question, Oral said that Dervis and he had not discussed the issue of real estate tax.
Oral said that ministers would sign the decree on recovery of income management which was included in the scope of new tax strategy and that there was not any problem.
