US credit card fraud costs Japanese card holders 839,000 dollars: Visa

TOKYO - Visa International said Wednesday that at least 838 cards issued in Japan were illegally used as a result of a massive data breach in the United States, resulting in fraud totalling nearly 839,000 dollars.
"The amount of damage from illegal use was 838,856 dollars," said a spokesman for the Tokyo office of the US credit card company. "The number of accounts affected by the illegal use was 838."
The biggest data security breach in US history, at CardSystems Solutions, a processing centre in Arizona, has seen the theft of private information on more than 40 million credit card holders around the world.
