STRASBOURG - Lawyers of the head terrorist Abdullah Ocalan asked on Wednesday the Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) for support regarding the retrial of their client in Turkey.
Lawyers Mahmut Sakar and Aysel Tugluk met representatives of political groups and countries' delegations during the PACE Council meeting and asked the Council of Europe (COE) to be active regarding Ocalan's retrial.
Sakar told reporters that head terrorist Ocalan should be retried under the last decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
Last May, the Grand Chamber of ECHR --which acts as an appeals court-- approved the earlier decision of ECHR ruling that Ocalan didn't have a fair trial. COE Committee of Ministers --which is in charge of supervising the implementation of ECHR rulings-- is expected to start evaluating the decision on Ocalan in the coming months.
