BRUSSELS - Turkish FM & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that Turkey was still suffering from terrorist acts in the north of Iraq, adding that this should end as soon as possible.
Making a speech at the conference on ''Iraq's Future'' held in Brussels, Gul thanked EU and the United States for holding this conference.
Stating that there was a huge participation in the conference that showed the international society reached consensus regarding support to be extended to Iraq, Gul indicated that Turkey fully supported political transition process in Iraq. He stressed that the process entered into the most sensitive stage and Iraqi people would determine its future from now on.
Referring to Turkey's concerns on Kirkuk issue, Gul underlined that it is important that all people in Iraq should participate in the writing process of the constitution.
UN IS FOCAL POINT FOR TURKEY
Stating that Turkey extended full support to Iraqi people, Gul said that the dialogue between Turkish government and Iraq continued at the highest level. Recalling that Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari paid his first foreign visit to Turkey, Gul remarked that they also expected Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to visit Turkey.
Gul stressed that Turkey's support to Iraq increased, noting that training activities on different public services continued as well. Gul said that Turkey also extended economic and humanitarian aid to Iraq. He recalled that during this process, nearly 100 Turkish citizens, most of whom were truck drivers died because of terror.
Gul remarked that ''Turkish government considered the UN as a focal point'' in all individual, regional and international initiatives in regard to Iraq.
TURKEY STILL SUFFERS FROM TERRORISM
Foreign Minister Gul said that Turkey still suffered from terrorism stemming from the north of Iraq adding that establishment of peace and stability in Iraq would yield positive results for the whole region.
