WASHINGTON D.C., Jan 24 (A.A) - A ceremony was held in front of the Korea War Memorial in Washington D.C., the United States on Thursday for the Turkish and American soldiers who fought together during the Korea War as United Nations force.
Turkish Ambassador to the United States Faruk Logoglu, Turkish Armed Forces Attache Air Forces Vice General Orhan Ugurluoglu, Turkish Embassy in Washington D.C. officials, American retired General Nels Running, officials from the U.S. Department of Defense and American veterans attended the ceremony.
Ambassador Logoglu and veterans laid a wreath at the monument. The Turkish and U.S. national athems were sung during the ceremony.
Turkey had joined the Korea War with 14,936 troops. In the war, 741 Turkish soldiers were killed, 2,068 others were injured and 407 Turkish soldiers were reported missing.
Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Robert Pearson will lay a wreath to the Korea War Monument in Ankara on Friday and give 1,200 Turkish veterans certificates of appreciation signed by U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
