Agriculture Minister Eker To Leave For Russia

ANKARA - Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker will leave for Moscow on Thursday to meet Russian Agriculture Minister Aleksey Gordeyev.
Sources said that officials will discuss lifting of the Russian ban on import of fresh fruits and vegetables from Turkey.
Russia suspended import of fruits and vegetables from Turkey as of May 30th due to a kind of insect seen in produces.
In the beginning of June, Turkish Agriculture & Rural Affairs Ministry Deputy Undersecretary Nihat Pakdil and an accompanying delegation had visited Russia to solve the problem. When the problem was not solved, Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on June 16th. Following this conversation, Gordeyev invited Eker to Russia to discuss the issue.
