SOFIA - A Bulgarian soldier stationed in Iraq died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an accident last week that killed two of his colleagues, bringing the country's casualties to 13, the defence ministry said.
Marin Milev died in the US military hospital at Landstuhl in Germany, while the two others were killed instantly when their armoured vehicle plunged into a canal during a patrol near Diwaniyah, south of Baghdad, last Wednesday.
Seven Bulgarian troops in Iraq have been killed in attacks. Another died in a friendly fire incident and two others were killed when their vehicle crashed during a desert storm on May 3.
Bulgaria has also suffered six civilian casualties in Iraq, including two truck drivers who were beheaded by extremists in July 2004.
Parliament decided in May to withdraw the country's 380 troops by the end of the year, but the opposition Socialists have vowed to bring them home immediately if they win general elections on Saturday.
