ANKARA, Jan 22 (A.A) - Felicity Party (SP) leader Recai Kutan claimed that the United States would increase tension in the region in March and intervene in Iraq.
Speaking at the group meeting of his party, Kutan said, ''the United States does not only intervene to fight against terrorism. It has different targets and these targets are not the same as our targets.''
Kutan said that the textile and iron steel quotas were assigned to the commission during Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit's visit to the United States while Iraq issue gained importance during that visit.
Claiming that the United States would not call Turkey before hitting Iraq as it had told Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, Kutan said, ''a possible Iraq war will not only have negative impact on economy and tourism, but also on our regional relations. The probable Iraq map in the post-war era will cause a lot of trouble for Turkey for years.''
Kutan continued, ''this issue is so serious that it cannot be left to the government. Ecevit has to inform the parliament and the opposition leaders. We will not allow anybody to toy with the future of the nation and the country. The United States can be a friend and ally. We can join the fight of the United States against terrorism. But, we have to know to say no if the interest of the United States do not coincide with our interests.''
''In our opinion, the United States does not only intervene in Iraq to fight against terrorism. It has different targets. These targets are not the same with our targets. We have to say no at this point,'' Kutan added.
