STRASBOURG, Jan 21 (A.A) – European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) said on Monday that a new hearing could be held for the application of the closed Welfare Party (RP).
Speaking in a news conference, ECHR Spokesman Roderic Lidel recalled that the ECHR decided at the end of last year to re-hear the case in the Grand Chamber, adding that the Court waited for the Turkish government and the lawyers of the closed Welfare Party to submit their written defense.
Liddel said that the parties of the case have to submit their views to the ECHR within three months, adding that a new hearing could be held in fall.
ECHR stated in its verdict in July 2001 that Turkey didn't violate the European Convention on Human Rights in the Welfare Party (RP) case. The lawyers of the party had applied to the Court for appeal.
Liddel, on the other hand, denied the claims telling that ECHR had requested to listen to the former Greek Ambassador to Kenya in the case of chief terrorist organization Abdullah Ocalan.
Noting that the lawyers of the chief terrorist had such a request, Liddel said that ECHR has not responded to that demand yet.
Liddel said that ECHR still examines the written views presented by Turkey and the lawyers of chief terrorist.
