A Picasso Painting Seized In Sanliurfa

SANLIURFA, Jan 18 (A.A) - A painting claimed to be painted by world-famous Picasso was seized in southern Sanliurfa province on Friday.
Gendarmerie forces, acting on a tip-off stopped a car on Sanliurfa-Gaziantep highway, confiscated the painting, originally named ''The Woman in the Armchair'' and captured a person.
The detainee wanted to sell the painting in return for 15 million U.S. dollars.
A total of eight paintings claimed to be painted by Pablo Picasso had earlier been confiscated in Turkey. Four of those paintings were not genuine.
The Foreign Ministry had contacted ''Picasso Administration'' in France to find out whether or not the eight paintings taken under protection in Ankara Painting and Statue Museum were original. Photographs and technical information of the paintings had been sent to that organization.
