BEIRUT - Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is currently on an official visit to Lebanon, spoke Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone on Thursday.
Turkish Prime Ministry spokesman Akif Beki told reporters that Erdogan and Putin discussed the decision of Russian Federation Veterinary Medicine and Plant Quarantine Department which suspended import of fresh vegetables and fruits from Turkey.
Erdogan told Putin that a Turkish delegation was sent to Russia on June 2nd regarding the issue and added that Turkey expects a Russian delegation to visit Turkey as well. Recalling that uncongeniality of plant health certificates was shown as the source of problem, Erdogan asked help of Putin about the issue.
Erdogan and Putin agreed to convene Agriculture Ministers of Turkey and Russia to solve the problem in export of fresh vegetables and fruits.
