Cuban Embassy: Cuba Is Against Use Of Guantanamo Naval Base As Concentration And Torture Camp

ANKARA - Cuban Embassy in Ankara said on Thursday that Cuba was against the use of Guantanamo Naval Base of the US (in Cuba) as a concentration camp where prisoners were maltreated and tortured.
Explaining the attitude of the Cuban government towards the incidents (heard to be) taking place in US naval base which was established 102 years ago, the Cuban Embassy noted in its statement that ''Cuba is against the use of the camp where the most basic human rights of the persons who were arrested and brought to the base from Afghanistan after Sept. 11th, 2001, are violated. Cuba made public the unbelievable practices witnessed in the naval base.''
The Embassy noted that US and EU countries rejected the application of Cuba asking the UN Human Rights Commission to investigate the claims of human rights violations at the naval base.
''Cuban government will voice its demand once again in the next session of the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, drawing attention to the double standard of the US and EU countries in denouncing human rights violations,'' the Cuban Embassy added.
