ANKARA, Jan 16 (A.A) - Turkey welcomed on Wednesday the statement that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf made four days ago which escalated tension between India and Pakistan.
A statement of the Foreign Ministry said that Musharraf had made a statement on January 12 addressing the Pakistani nation which was of vital importance for the future.
The statement noted that Ankara welcomed that statement which was a new and clear indicator of determination of Pakistani administration about the fight against terrorism and extremist formations.
Turkey sincerely supported that approach of Pakistani administration which was believed to further improve peaceful, tranquil and stable atmosphere in the country and the steps that had been taken, the statement pointed out.
The statement said that this approach was also a positive and constructive step taken to overcome the tension in the region.
A wide-scale fight against fundamentalist terrorists had been launched after Musharraf's statement and the security forces had carried out a comprehensive operation against the offices and members of the terrorist organizations.
However, India, which was not satisfied with this statement and fight that had been launched, had announced that it had expected Pakistan to launch more initiatives in order to see that Pakistan was sincere about its commitments for fight against Islamic militants.
