ANKARA, Jan 16 (A.A) - The European Union (EU) Commission announced on Wednesday that 167 million Euro had been released for Turkey within framework of the 2001 MEDA Programme.
Releasing a statement, the EU Commission Representation in Turkey said that under the financial plan which had been newly adopted, a total of 167 million Euro (or 203 trillion 72 billion Turkish liras) had been allocated from the MEDA programme which was implemented in Mediterranean countries, for 6 prior fields and 14 personal programmes in Turkey.
Defining this development as ''another direct support to Turkey's EU membership target'', EU Commission Representative in Turkey Karen Fogg said that this amount would be beneficial in achievement of goals mentioned in Turkey's Accession Partnership Document and Nation.
The statement said that the financial plan covered some fields which were directly linked to the pre-accession strategy for Turkey.
The 167 million Euro that will be given by the EU will be used in fields like investments by small and medium scale entrepreneurs, local administrations reform and regional development, environment and jurisdiction especially in eastern Anatolia.
