ANKARA, Jan 15 (A.A) - Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Parliamentarian Sadi Somuncuoglu warned on Tuesday the European Union (EU) prior to the talks that would start between Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas and Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides. Somuncuoglu said time came for the EU to give up acting as the spokesman of Greece and Greek Cypriot side.
Somuncuoglu issued a written statement and said the EU should accept the fact that Cyprus issue is a matter between the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides under the guarantorship of Turkey, Greece and Britain.
Pointing out that he made this warning against a report prepared by Hungarian Parliamentarian Andras Barsony which would be discussed on January 22 in Council of Europe Parliamentarian Assemly, Somuncuoglu said the report called on the sides to act with responsibility, but that the report itself was an example of irresponsibility.
''The report wanted Turkey to accept the ECHR decisions on Cyprus which were resulted against itself, and also wants Turkey to convince the Turkish Cypriot administrators regarded with EU membership,'' he said.
Somuncuoglu said Turkey should call on the EU to give up its implementations which ignore the rights and laws, stressing that admission of southern Cyprus to the EU would mean that a decision has been given for the division of the island.
