ISTANBUL - Turkish telecommunications giant Turkcell ranked 14th among top 100 information technology companies of the world.
Releasing a statement, Turkcell noted that Turkcell was included in the list of ''The Info Tech 100'' for the third time this year, stating that the list was prepared according to sales, revenue growth, return on equity and shareholder return of the companies by the BusinessWeek magazine and Standard & Poor's.
Turkcell also ranked the eighth among the companies which provide their shareholders with the highest return. Turkcell was included in the this list with the leading companies such as Apple Computer, Google and Verisign.
Turkcell Director General Muzaffer Akpinar stated that his company has invested 4.1 billion USD in Turkey so far.
Turkcell, the only Turkish telecommunications company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, claims two-thirds of its homeland's mobile-phone market. Thanks to aggressive pricing and improvements in its voice and data services, the company notched a 23 percent increase in the number of customers last year (a total of 23.4 million subscribers), boosting revenues by 44 percent, to 3.2 billion USD.
Turkcell provides mobile telecommunication services in Turkey. It offers mobile voice and data services using its global system for mobile communications (GSM) network. The company provides other services, including call centers and database management, directory assistance, advertising, online and telephone gaming, wireless application protocol, value added GSM services, and Internet services.
