ANKARA, Jan 15 (A.A) - The International Nazim Hikmet Symposium will be held by Culture Ministry Libraries Directorate General in Istanbul between January 25 and 27, 2002.
Culture Minister Istemihan Talay recalled on Tuesday that UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) announced 2002, the 100th anniversary of Nazim Hikmet's birthday, as ''Nazim Hikmet Year'' in the world.
Talay noted that an exhibition including the pictures of houses, hotels in cities where Nazim Hikmet had lived, and halls where Hikmet had made speeches, would be held by Nazim Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Sinop, Bursa and Cankiri provinces.
Talay pointed out that they also plan to hold a competition of long feature scenario about Nazim Hikmet.
Istemihan Talay noted that the preparatory works on International Nazim Hikmet Symposium which would be held between Jan. 25 and 27 in Istanbul were being carried out and stated that total cost of the symposium would be 50 billion TL and that the contribution of the ministry would be 10 billion TL.
Stating that they are planning to publish a book covering poems of Nazim Hikmet translated from Turkish into English, Talay said, ''Nazim Hikmet's bibliography is being prepared by our ministry within the context of activities on Nazim Hikmet's 100th birthday.''
Talay added that Russian Federation would open exhibitions composed of Nazim Hikmet's books in various cities in Turkey.
