ANKARA, Jan 15 (A.A) - Devlet Bahceli, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and Acting Prime Minister said on Tuesday that the visit of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit to the U.S. takes place in an important time in the world in which the new world order and security is discussed.
Addressing the MHP Group meeting, Bahceli said that global poverty, economic balance, stability and terrorism are important issues of the world today.
Noting that Turkey is a key country in the world, Bahceli said that ''the visit of Prime Minister Ecevit to the U.S. is very important. The relations between Turkey and U.S. are multidimensional, however the anti-Turkey lobbies in this country negatively affect the relations of Turkey with the U.S. from time to time. This issue has to be reminded to American officials.'' Bahceli said that the visit of Prime Minister Ecevit to the U.S. will be important in respect of re-consideration of sensitive balances between Turkey and the U.S. and in respect of international cooperation in fight with terrorism.
Referring to the issue of demolition of Ajyad fortress in Saudi Arabia, Bahceli said that the Ottoman works of art are exposed to ''cultural genocide'' from time to time.
''We were deeply hurt by the attitude of Saudi Arabia which was similar to Serbian racism. There is no reason of destroying a historical place which reflected the basic characteristics of the Ottoman architecture. Expressing uneasiness over this incident is not related to ignoring the sovereignty rights of a friendly country. Because the demolition of the forstress does not coincide with Muslim friendship and respect to common cultural inheritance. I condemn this meaningless attitude and I invite the Saudian administration to act in a sensitive way,'' he said.
