ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan indicated that multi-dimensional and sound relations between Turkey and the United States were developing with a clear vision and mutual understanding, adding, ''Turkish-U.S. relations depend on political values and strategic partnership.''
Erdogan who completed his visit to the United States returned to Turkey today (Saturday).
Speaking to reporters at Ankara's Esenboga airport, Erdogan noted that he had meetings with U.S. President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and congressmen.
Recalling that he spoke to leading media organizations and met businessmen, he said that they also assessed investment possibilities in Turkey.
Erdogan stressed that his meeting with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan was very important, noting that Annan and he discussed Cyprus, Iraq and other international issues.
''We emphasized once again our intention and willingness for a lasting solution on Cyprus. We saw that he (Annan) also had positive approach toward the question,'' Erdogan stated.
Erdogan went on to say, ''we are emphasizing that we want a fair, comprehensive and lasting solution in Cyprus. We wanted isolation imposed on TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) be lifted and we are working to achieve this goal. Mr. Annan underlined all these matters on his report dated May 28th (2004). We continue to cooperate with UN Secretary General.''
Recalling that UN has been carrying out a reform study (of the organization), Erdogan noted, ''we also conveyed our views on this matter either.''
Erdogan stressed that his visit to the United States was very fruitful in regard to develop relations between Turkey and the US.
